What is Epithalon?
A comprehensive examination of the pineal tetrapeptide’s role in telomerase activation, circadian regulation, and longevity research.
What is Epithalon
Introduction to epithalon’s chemistry, origins, and significance in cellular senescence and longevity research models.
Pineal Analogue
A synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed as the active component of epithalamin, a naturally occurring peptide complex extracted from the bovine pineal gland.
Khavinson Discovery
Synthesised by Vladimir Khavinson at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in the late 1980s, epithalon emerged as a key tool for studying age-related hormonal decline and telomere biology.
Research Foundation
For in-vitro laboratory research into cellular senescence, circadian dynamics, and longevity mechanisms—not for human consumption.
Mechanism of Action
How epithalon modulates telomerase expression, circadian rhythms, and age-related neuroendocrine decline in cellular and organism-level models.
Epithalon vs Related Longevity Peptides
Comparison of epithalon’s mechanisms, specificity, and research applications against complementary longevity peptides.
Key Research Applications
Primary research domains for epithalon in cellular senescence, circadian biology, and longevity studies.

Evidence Quality & Limitations
As noted above, nearly all epithalon research — including the lifespan, melatonin and telomerase findings — comes from Khavinson’s institute and its collaborators, and independent replication by other groups is still limited. Most human data come from small Russian studies of the parent extract epithalamin rather than controlled trials of the synthetic tetrapeptide.
