PT-141 — Bremelanotide
Melanocortin Receptor Agonist · 10mg Research Vial
Compound Overview
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist derived from the Melanotan II (MT-2) backbone. Unlike MT-2, PT-141 is an active metabolite that exhibits preferential binding affinity for MC3R and MC4R over MC1R and MC5R, providing a more selective pharmacological profile for melanocortin receptor subtype research.
PT-141 was originally developed at the University of Arizona and has been the subject of clinical investigation by Palatin Technologies.
Receptor Pharmacology
MC3R Activation: Expressed in hypothalamus and peripheral tissues. Investigated in energy homeostasis and autonomic nervous system research.
MC4R Activation: Expressed in CNS regions including hypothalamus, brainstem, and spinal cord. MC4R is a major research target in central melanocortin signalling studies and neuroendocrine pathway characterisation.
Reduced MC1R Activity: PT-141 shows lower affinity for MC1R compared to MT-2, making it a useful comparator tool for studying receptor subtype-specific effects.
