Compound Overview
DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) first isolated from the cerebral venous blood of sleep-induced rabbits by Schoenenberger and Monnier in the mid-1970s. The peptide has subsequently been identified in human cerebrospinal fluid, plasma, and various peripheral tissues.
DSIP has been studied across a broad range of research domains including sleep architecture, stress-axis modulation, neuroendocrine signalling, and circadian biology. It is one of the most extensively investigated endogenous sleep-related peptides in the published literature.
Mechanism of Action
Research has identified several pathways associated with DSIP activity in preclinical models:
Delta-Wave Sleep Modulation: Early electroencephalographic studies in rabbits and rats reported increases in slow-wave (delta) EEG activity following intracerebroventricular DSIP administration, hence the peptide’s historical name.
Stress & HPA-Axis Research: DSIP has been investigated for effects on corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) signalling and basal cortisol/corticosterone profiles in rodent stress paradigms.
Neuroendocrine Studies: Reports describe DSIP-associated changes in somatotropin (GH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) release in pituitary cell models, alongside putative antioxidant effects in neuronal cultures.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is DSIP?
DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a synthetic nonapeptide first isolated from cerebral venous blood in the early 1970s. It is studied in sleep research, neuroendocrine signalling, and stress-response models. CAS 62568-57-4.
What is the purity of this peptide?
BioCompounds UK supplies HPLC-verified research-grade material. Selected batches undergo independent third-party analysis by Janoshik Analytical, with current published Certificates of Analysis available on our batch verification page when applicable.
What is the half-life of DSIP?
DSIP has a very short systemic half-life (typically measured in minutes in published research models), though downstream effects on EEG patterns and hormonal signalling have been observed over longer windows.
What is DSIP primarily studied for?
Research interest focuses on DSIP’s reported effects on delta-wave sleep architecture, ACTH/cortisol modulation, and stress-response signalling in preclinical models. See our DSIP research guide for context.
How should this peptide be stored?
Storage depends on the format you have chosen:
- 10mg Vial (lyophilised powder): Store at -20°C in a sealed container, away from light and moisture. Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C and use within approximately four weeks.
- 3ml Cartridge (for reusable pen): Store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C from arrival. Once opened, use within 3 months. Keep away from light.
- Disposable Ready-to-Use Pen: Store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C from arrival. Once opened, use within 3 months. Keep away from light.
Full details are in our Peptide Storage Guide.
What formats is this available in?
This product is available in three research formats: a 10mg lyophilised vial, a 3ml cartridge for reusable research pens, and a ready-to-use disposable pen. Vials offer the most flexibility in reconstitution; cartridges and pens are calibrated for our standard equipment.
How fast is UK delivery?
Orders are typically dispatched within 24 hours via Royal Mail Tracked 24. During busier periods dispatch may extend to 48 hours. Free shipping on UK orders over £100. Full details on our Postage Guidance page.
Is this product legal in the UK?
All BioCompounds UK products are sold strictly for in-vitro laboratory research by qualified researchers aged 18 or over. They are not approved or intended for human or veterinary consumption, diagnostic, or therapeutic use. See our Terms of Purchase for full guidance.
